Tap into over 4500 science and technology students at Lancaster University

Have you ever considered engaging with students from Lancaster University?  Our staff are always keen to hear from recruiters who might be interested in taking on an intern, or filling a graduate role.

Lancaster University has particular strengths in technology. Our School of Computing and Communications is a world-class research and collaboration hub for computer science and communications systems, helping business transform ideas into new digital products, processes and services. Security and Protection Science at Lancaster builds on Lancaster’s credentials as a world leader in cyber security and protection science, with its cross-disciplinary expertise recognised through being one of only a handful of universities nationally and the only one in the Northwest to be identified by the National Cyber Security Centre as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research and Cyber Security Education.

We currently have 4695 Science and Technology students studying with us, of which 3889 are undergraduates and 806 are postgraduates. Your organisation can benefit from fresh ideas and technical skills by accessing our talent pool of science and technology students with technical backgrounds including computing and communications, cyber-security, and other disciplines such as chemistry, engineering, environmental science, maths and statistics, physics, and psychology. As well as their chosen degree subject, our students are skilled in problem solving, analysis, critical reflection, oral and written communications, and negotiation.

Our experienced Student Employability Team runs a Science and Technology Internships Programme and will be your first point of contact to discuss your needs and find out about funding opportunities. We evaluate the needs of each organisation and advertise their roles to students, who are encouraged to apply through a competitive process. There is often funding available to support organisations as well – please do ask us for details.

Our students are keen to learn and improve their employability through real-world experience and they are keen and knowledgeable about new technologies. We provide support and guidance throughout the whole process, from advice on funding options, help with creating a job description, posting the advert, arranging interviews and guidance on internship selection, to monitoring and reviewing the internship to ensure a positive experience for both parties.

There are over 500 student partnerships a year. Internships are available all year round and are flexible in duration. Many organisations use internships during the summer months when students can more readily commit their time. Find out how other businesses benefited through our case studies. Many of our students gain further employment with their internship hosts with businesses finding the process to be a great way to trial potential new staff.

We also offer other ways to engage with our students such as collaborative research projects, year in industry programmes, volunteering programmes, and careers fairs where you can meet our students and promote your business. Our biggest annual Science & Technology careers fair, attended by 900 students from across the University, including Management and Social Science disciplines, takes place on 1st November 2023. Exhibition places are limited so get in touch asap if you are interested.
